About

Travel – The Half Century Club

To date, I’ve traveled to 55 countries. Most of these were during an 18 month full time backpacking trek that covered Asia, the Middle East, northern Africa and Europe. I’ve lived in Australia, South Korea, Egypt and England. Despite a hiatus while I focused on other goals for my family, I plan to continue to explore the world with a camera in my hand.

Capturing Moments, Telling Stories: David The Aussie Photography

I started my life as a photographer with a Pentax K1000 that was given to me when I was a teenager. From there I ventured into developing and printing my own film … ahh, the old days of purely analogue photography.

Later I started to travel and began to get more serious about my photography. I soon discovered digital and bought a Nikon D50. I quickly outgrew it and upgraded to a Nikon D200. This faithful camera served me well for over a decade.

I also dabbled again with film while I was living in South Korea. I bought a Leica M6 and Hasselblad 500CM and a Nikon FM2 with a gorgeous 50mm F1.2 lens. I spent my time moving between film and digital and this was definitely when I really pushed myself and my photography to its limits.

I was fortunate enough to be published, hold galleries, and be hired as a professional photographer on a number of occasions – photographing corporate events, Asian Champinos Leauge and a number of other gigs that tested my skills and that I enjoyed immensely.

Despite taking a break to focus on other pusuits, I’m still very much a photographer, but I’ve found a different style and niche to my work. My faithful Nikon D200 has been retired but I still have the Leica M6 and Hasselblad 500CM. My daily shooters are now a Panasonic Leica Lumix M43rds and a Hasselblad X1D.
